October 2021

🐰🐰 My favorite color is October

β€œOctober had tremendous possibility. The summer's oppressive heat was a distant memory, and the golden leaves promised a world full of beautiful adventures. They made me believe in miracles.” -Sarah Guillory, Reclaimed

β€œI wish that every day was Saturday and every month was October.” -Charmaine

The only constant is change...

We are officially in the final quarter of 2021.  This is a great time to review your goals for 2021.  Which ones have been completed - and how did you reward yourself?  Which are in progress, and what remains to be done?  How can I support you as you continue to make progress?  Are there any that you have postponed or saved for later, or perhaps some that are no longer relevant?

As you're evaluating your progress, and maybe getting a head start on planning your 2022 goals, I thought it might be helpful to revisit Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.  For those who are not yet familiar with this, it's a theoretical framework for what motivates people's behaviors.  The general idea is that foundational needs (those near the bottom of the pyramid, such as food, water, shelter, safety) need to be met in order to then focus on the higher needs (relationships, self esteem).  We can move between the levels and work on meeting multiple needs at once.  Have a look and let me know if you'd like to explore the hierarchy more in session.

Sleep is included in the most foundational physiological needs.  As the mornings are colder and darker, it's easy to fall into the habit of hitting the snooze button for a few extra minutes of sleep.  Resist the urge!  Those extra few minutes of sleep can actually result in a more difficult awakening and cause lasting sluggishness through the day.  Take a few minutes to read this article on sleep cycles and why it's better to set your alarm for later and avoid hitting snooze!
