🐰🐰         Autumn’s Approach

"All at once, summer collapsed into fall." -Oscar Wilde

“My favourite poem is the one that starts 'Thirty days hath September' because it actually tells you something.” ―Groucho Marx

The only constant is change...

Good luck to everyone returning to school!

I hope everyone is keeping safe and dry with the remnants of Hurricane Ida passing through.  This was a devastating storm for many in the South, and there will be many opportunities to assist through donations of goods and services if you are so inclined.

It seems Covid plans to stick around a little longer.  While most of us have returned to many of our usual work routines and have resumed some of our social and recreational activities, there remains the need to be diligent in wearing masks and limiting time in crowded spaces.  Please continue to stay aware of current guidance, check with your healthcare professionals, and use your good sense!  If you need some support with adjusting your routines again, let's talk about it.  It might also be good to start thinking of some projects or hobbies (books and movies count!) you can indulge in as summertime outdoor activities start to wrap up.

Gradually cooling temperatures are a welcome sign of Autumn’s approach.  With the more comfortable temperatures comes shorter daylight hours, and for those of us who work traditional shifts that means we have limited time to get out in the sunshine.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, a terribly punny abbreviation), can occur during the change in seasons and presents as depression, most often in fall and winter but occasionally in spring and summer.   Recommended treatment includes increasing access to sunlight (natural is always best but light boxes are also very helpful) as well as traditional therapy, including many of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches we are already using.   Please let me know if you notice a change in mood or energy levels and we can focus on some specific CBT skills.
