November 2021
🐰🐰 The Kindness of Strangers
"“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house." Nathaniel Hawthorne
“Love the trees until their leaves fall off, then encourage them to try again next year.” Chad Sugg
The only constant is change...
Remember that clocks change Sunday, November 7. This is the fun one - clocks "fall back" giving us an extra hour of sleep 🙂
However... any change is a disruption so we'll need to use good sleep strategies and have a good morning routine in place. How did you do with eliminating (or at least reducing) your use of the snooze button?
If less daylight is causing depressive symptoms that aren't alleviated by behavioral and lifestyle changes and our work together, consider talking with your healthcare provider about nutritional needs and possible vitamins and supplements. Remember to include at least 10 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine. Let me know if you need some ideas for indoor activities if you're not loving the chilly weather.
November also starts the traditional holiday season. Covid disrupted many holiday traditions last year, and while that was disappointing it was also an opportunity to realize what's most important. As you start to consider your plans for the coming holidays, think about what's meaningful and what traditions you wish to continue. If there were gatherings or obligations that created stress during past holidays, the pause last year gives an opportunity to choose to not resume those events.
The pandemic created hardships for many, especially those who had limited resources to begin with. If you are so inclined, you may wish to consider volunteering or donating to those in need, and possibly hosting those who may not have a family to share their holiday.
A few years ago there was a Month of Thanks trend on social media to post one thing you were thankful for each day in November. I loved it and have kept up the tradition on my own each year. Taking just a minute or two to identify something I am grateful for ensures I am making time each day for something positive, and it serves as a reminder that I have so much to be thankful for even on challenging days. I remember posting "I am thankful for the kindness of strangers" one day and although I don't remember now what prompted me to state that on that particular day, it created a lasting mindset that I carry with me. And it has motivated me to be that kind stranger whenever I have the opportunity.
