December 2021

🐰🐰  Intentions Align Us with Our Purpose

β€œIt is December, and nobody asked if I was ready.” ― Sarah Kay

β€œI wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, β€˜Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.'” – Lewis Carroll

Quick housekeeping items:

  • If you will be unable to keep a scheduled appointment time, please cancel / let me know with as much notice as possible so the time can be made available for someone else.  This time of year is especially hectic, so let me know if you need a different time and I will accommodate you whenever possible.

  • If you are thinking about taking a break or finishing up our work together, please let me know so we can close out our work together in a planful way.

The only constant is change...

We're entering the last chapter of the year.  How do you want the story of 2021 to end?  Which of your goals from the year have you completed, and what still needs attention?

I found a helpful template to use to start your personal end-of-year review by reflecting on the different areas of life. These are:

  • Job/career

  • Health and fitness

  • Finances

  • Family

  • Romance/dating

  • Friendships

  • Fun and leisure

  • Home/physical environment

  • Personal growth and development

For each area, consider the following questions:

  • What worked this year?

  • What is still a work in progress in this area?

  • What are the wins from this area of life over the past year?

  • And the mishaps?

  • Where are the gaps between what I’m saying I want in this area of life and how I’m actually living it?

  • What lessons have I learned from this area of life over the past year?

  • How do I feel about each area when I think about the past year?

  • How do I want to feel about each area this time next year?

  • Who do I want to be in this area of my life over the next year? What qualities do I want to embody?

Thoughts on setting intentions for 2022...

Intentions are not goals.  Goals put pressure on us and have an external outcome. Intentions align us with our purpose.

As you consider your intentions for 2022, consider the following steps:

  • Reflect on the wins and losses of the last year

  • Start small and get specific

  • Find your why

  • Set a theme for the year

  • Write monthly intentions

  • Enlist an accountability partner

  • Reward yourself

We can explore these in session if you would like.
