The only constant is change...

A reminder that clocks “spring ahead” on Sunday, March 12.

March may be the most transitional of all the months… Winter in the morning, Spring at lunchtime, Autumn for the walk home… Rain? Snow? Mud? Early blooms?

Perhaps it was fitting that it was March when our world changed so drastically three years ago. The impact of this life-changing pandemic was unfathomable at the time, and the concurrent social justice struggles remain a priority today. We are still defining the “new normal” as we recover and redefine what matters most to each of us.

March is National Social Workers month. Perhaps also fitting that Social Work is honored during this month of change. Social Work as a discipline is founded on a mission of advocacy and social justice; this is a key difference when compared to other disciplines such as psychology, counseling, and marriage and family therapy.  Social work advocacy ranges from small-scale actions that impact individuals to large-scale programs designed to benefit entire communities and society as a whole.  We call this “change work,” and it is sometimes grueling and uncomfortable and unpopular. The important stuff is always worth fighting for, though, and worth putting in the work.

I'm grateful to know you and I thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.  Please let me know if there is anything more I can be doing to support you.

Some housekeeping items:

  • Scheduling:

        • I will be taking a few days off at the beginning of the month (March 2-6).  If our regular session time will be impacted, let's talk about choosing a different day and find some purposeful things to do during our regular session time.

        • This season gets busy with Spring festivities, more activities on your social calendar, and more time spent outdoors.  I believe that family, friends, and fun are priorities in our lives, and am happy to reschedule our session times when you have something enjoyable to do (or otherwise important, like studying or a project).  Please remember to cancel or reschedule your appointments with as much advance notice as possible so that we can reschedule and I can offer the session time to someone else. No shows and late cancelations (fewer than 4 hours notice) are subject to a no show charge.

  • Crisis Numbers:

I recommend adding these to your contacts in your phone. If you don't need them, you might be able to share them with someone who does.
