🐰🐰 New Year

“[T]hat old September feeling, left over from school days, of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air ... Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year's mistakes had been wiped clean by summer.” ― Wallace Stegner

The only constant is change...

Although I make a big deal out of New Year's Day each year - setting intentions and celebrating a fresh, new calendar - truth be told, I've always felt that September marks the start of the new year.  The start of the school year always seemed to me a more natural transition from one year to the next.  As a younger kid, I looked forward to seeing my friends in September and school seemed a sanctuary of learning and friendship.  Through adolescence, some of that excitement turned to anxiety (school, peers, family dynamics, adolescent angst and awkwardness), but each September seemed an opportunity to reset, to start fresh.

Now as an adult with no more school-aged kids to prepare for a new school year, September still seems like a new beginning.  Transitioning to cooler weather, cleaning up my garden and preparing my home for more time inside brings new energy. And while I do miss the longer daylight hours, I'm excited for crisp mornings and cozy sweaters and watching movies with a mug of hot cider.

What are your favorite autumn traditions?

If you do start to feel a bit of seasonal sadness, please let me know and we can work on some strategies together.

Some housekeeping items:

  • Scheduling:

      • I will be unavailable for sessions during Labor Day weekend.  If our regular session time will be impacted, let's talk about choosing a different day, or a creative way to use your regularly scheduled time for some self care.

      • Schedules and routines may require tweaking as we transition into Autumn.   I believe that family, friends, and fun are priorities in our lives, and am happy to reschedule our session times when you have something enjoyable to do (or otherwise important, like studying or a project).  Late cancellations (less than 24 hours notice) and no-shows may be charged a fee, so please communicate schedule changes with as much notice as possible.  That allows us to reschedule, and I can offer the session time to someone else.

      • Just a reminder that  sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes.

  • Crisis Numbers:

I recommend adding these to your contacts in your phone. If you don't need them, you might be able to share them with someone who does.
